Ain’t Gonna Work on Sarah’s Farm No More

In Madison, Wisconsin today–and not for the first time–Sarah tried to identify herself with organized labor.
She said, “I’m here as a patriot, as a taxpayer, and as a former union member.”

I said, “Huh?”  Lord, lordy, in all my research I somehow must have missed Sarah’s blue collar union days.    But at least there’s still time to write about them in my last chapter, due June 4.   So I checked.

Turns out that Vince Beltrami, president of Alaska AFL-CIO, already wrote about those glory days–on Feb. 19,in the Anchorage Daily News.

Beltrami was irked by the “utter hypocrisy” of Sarah urging (via Facebook) her “union brothers and sisters” to oppose
the protests against Wisconsin Gov. Walker’s signing into law a bill that stripped public employees of union rights.
He wrote, “She belonged to my union, the IBEW, for about a minute, over twenty years ago, one summer, in a temporary position.”

Now, again, she claims a link with organized labor by saying she’s “a former union member?”

Who does she think she’s kidding?

She’s not even Maggie in Bob Dylan’s Maggie’s Farm, she’s Maggie’s ma.

I ain’t gonna work for Maggie’s ma no more
No, I ain’t gonna work for Maggie’s ma no more
Well, she talks to all the servants
About man and God and law…
She’s sixty-eight, but she says she’s twenty-four
I ain’t gonna work for Maggie’s ma no more

As a 28 year union worker, I find her attempted affiliation to garner sympathy outrageous. What is really funny in her speech today was her talking up the Tea Party and their longevity saying :We’re here, still clear, get over it”. That line happens to come from the GLBT community which actually said “We’re here, we’re queer, get over it” Could it be Sarah really meant queer but didn’t want to offend the straight people or possibly queer is clear to her?

  • Mary:

    Dear Joe,
I know it’s bad form to wish my life away, but September (your book) cannot get here soon enough.
Thank you for writing the book. May karma smile on you and may you have a good life.

  • Marie:

The hypocrisy of this woman knows no bounds.

  • Jhay:

September? We need this book to be released sooner. Somebody has got to stop this bitch of a woman. I thought ‘Palingate’ ‘babygate’ would have done it but the MSM seems to be ignoring it. She is despicable and I wish for her downfall daily.

  • Susan:

And my disgust for her knows no bounds as well.

I preordered your book last night, and as a Minnesotan I hate to wish away the summer months, but am marking the calendar until it’s arrival.

  • krbmjb05:

Please tell me you’re already starting on your 2nd book about Sarah! That, or what happens between now and June can be its OWN book! I am enjoying your commentary and “snark”. Did you ever see any flying canned goods through those windows you were accused of lurking in? LOL Any demolished, dented refrigerators strewn in the front yard?

  • yknott:

As an employee of Faux News, doesn’t she have to belong to the Union for tee vee people? I bet she does and I bet she benefits from being in that Union. She would never admit this fact to her bots. Collective bargaining is right up her ally and is something she is benefiting from whether she knows it or not. What a lying hypocrite.

  • NoMooseStew:

Wasn’t her husband a union member at one time? Joe I give you a lot of credit being able to live near her to write your book. The threats and comments made about you were horrible. She has that “flare” to rile up her base. Have your book on Amazon bookmarked and asked my local library to order it. Stay strong. The truth shall overcome.

  • FEDUP!!!:

I actually thought I heard her say that IS a union member (I was able to just listen for about 1 or 2 minutes of her screeching, before my ears demanded ‘enough already!’) !

  • FEDUP!!!:

    … ‘SHE’ IS …

  • WakeUpAmerica:

The only thing she is expert at is lying. Same goes for RAM.

  • B:

“Now, again, she claims a link with organized labor by saying she’s ‘a former union member?’
Who does she think she’s kidding?”

Now, again, she claims a link with her religious-right base by saying she chose to carry a Down Syndrome child to term. Who does she think she’s kidding?

  • Well we all know for a FACT she lies about everything and anything.

  • Sarah HalfTime:

Ah come on now. Sowah, belonging to a union, even if it was just a summer, only means it’s documentation for holding a actual job. Gotta give some credit for that… *snort*
Does anyone know if she quit her union job? Ah… probably a question that shouldn’t be asked… Considering her penchant for quitting. ~sigh~

  • CO:

Thank you Joe, for clearing that up.
Something inside told me, of course she was making crap up again.

  • True Blue Girl:

The list is long: Union member, Christian, college graduate, journalist, beauty queen, basketball star, energy expert, feminist…

There is no limit to her lies, deceit, misrepresentation, distortion, and opportunistic exploitation.

    Parasite on a host organism.

  • ginger50:

Just want to say I read here every day and love Joe. Agree with all that Sept can’t come soon enough. Hopefully te e-mails from the State of Alaka will no be delayed in May. (for the fifteenth time, literally))

  • Lisabeth:

I have never seen anyone lie as easily and frequently as Sarah.
She has a very serious problem with telling the truth. And her lies and choice of words are so manipulative.
I think she borders on being a sociopath and I will be curious to see how you address her pathological lying in your book.
And Geoffrey Dunne’s book title shows he sees it too.
It’s so obvious, how do her supporters not see it? That is what I don’t understand and never will.
They project all kinds of attributes (like honest, plain speaking, one of us,etc) that are so far from the truth.

  • Enjay in E MT:

Perhaps she holds a union card when working with Tawd as a commercial fisherman.

    Hahahaha

  • AKRNC:

She could be a union member due to her contract with FAUX. I know that lying, hypocritical, shit-spewing Hannity is a union member and has the nerve to talk about all these “thugs” and teachers being overpaid! He’s complaining about the amount of taxes he pays on a regular basis when it’s pure luck he’s not still tending bar and hanging wallpaper. There is nothing wrong with those professions, but he sure as hell wouldn’t be making the ridiculous amounts of money he is now being paid.

  • Gindy52:

“It’s so obvious, how do her supporters not see it?”

Because most of them have anger management issues, mommy issues, daddy issues, and are border line sociopaths as well. Just look at the faces of her followers when they see her. Read their screeds and deluded comments on her C4P site. Talk to one of them face to face and mention some of her lies. You’ll see what I mean. I jettisoned one former friend of 20+ years because she was so sick in the head. I can’t live with such negativity and hatred in my life, it was all she had left. So sad to live that way, for Palin and her crowd. Life is way too short to spend it angry all the damned time.

  • mitch:

I wish someone in our extended community would post (or attempt to) over at C4P or blogsforvictory and rub in their faces the fact that there were ~ 500 $arah supporters and ~ 5000 protestors. Then bring up her lying (again) about being a union member; although there might be some credability to her membership vis a vis Faux. Then bring up the fake pregnancy. These people and their Jim Jones thinking infuriate me but, alas, I’ve been banned and I can’t hide my ISP address either here at home or at work. I’m still perplexed as to how they ban me at work. I am employed by a very large company with servers and firewalls and all those buttons and switches and stuff. Microchips too !

  • FormerRepublican:

How I love this blog! Thanks for the facts, Joe.

I love summer, but this year September can’t come soon enough for me.

  • g:

What I recall from her bio is that in one of her first jobs out of college, she worked for the local public electrical utility in the Mat-Su Valley, as a clerical worker, and those workers were represented by IBEW.

So not only was she a union-represented employee, she was also a public employee.

I am not sure she was a union “member” – in my experience working part-time at several union jobs early in my career, you may be represented by the union, but especially in part time or temp jobs, you can opt not to actually join the union as a voting member. There is no such thing in this country any more as a “closed shop.” – you are represented by the union, but you don’t have to “join” unless you choose to.

In fact, unions are obligated to provide equal representation to all workers in a contract-covered job, whether they are “members” or not. Even those workers who actively oppose the union.

  • g:

Actually, if you google AFTRA and Fox News, one of the first things that comes up is Michelle Malkin, proudly claiming that she’s not an AFTRA member, she’s an independent contractor.

Which makes me laugh a little. Because as everyone who’s in a union represented job knows, “independent contractors” are how employers hire non-union workers when they want to bust unions. “Independent contractors” don’t share in employee benefits. “Independent contract” = “scab.”

Although Bill O’Reilly is apparently an AFTRA member – he praised AFTRA for going to bat with him against FOX in a contract dispute, I would imagine that people like Malkin and, yes, Sarah Palin, who are only “contributors” and not full-time employees, are probably hired as independent contractors.

  • Carrie R:

For a moment I thought you were talking about the Facebook game Farmville. 🙂

  • Virginia:

She would rather tell a lie than tell the truth.

Joe, I had read many of your old books and loved how deeply and clearly you covered your subjects. I recently got “Never Enough” and have just a bit left to finish it. If you write about the Palins and the Heaths the way you wrote about the Kissels, Sarah is going to be gutted and filleted like a halibut.

I can’t wait for that and I am very much looking forward to my copy of your book hitting my Kindle.

  • lilly lily:

Could she be a member of an actors union?

I don’t know the regulations or rules. By filming her series perhaps she wormed her way in, so she could collect union benefits later on in her life..An actors guild?

Perhaps from the Alaska reality mess for TLC?

After all that was all faked and very bad acting on her part.

Felling trees, coralling logs, climbing part of a rock, so on and so forth..

  • lilly lily:

Also that fake reality soap opera that she calls a life. With all the soaps going by by, vanishing one after the other, devotees do need entertainment. The palinbots of America will be glued to Sarah from Wasilla and her “Stomach Turning Lifestyle” If she isn’t in the Actors Guild as an actress, though a bad one, she is missing out.

We had one old time soaps filming in town, as they used our little village as a backdrop. Local houses, the town tavern, the town hall, parks and the churches were happy to get paid handsomely for the use of their properties.

Wasillians, their business and so on got filmed while she ran for vice president, and no one got a dime, except for Sarah Palin. She kept the pricey costumes, and never returned the best outfits from the RNC.

  • SME:

Well boys and girls here is a bit more proof that Scarah is nothing more than a hypocrite. Here she is PRAISING THE UNIONS.

Palin: Our family struggled financially ‘until Todd and I got a couple of good union jobs.’

Last night on his radio show, conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt asked Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) if she and her husband “ever faced tough economic times.” Palin responded saying that her family struggled to get health insurance “until Todd and I both landed a couple of good union jobs.” She said further that she could identify with Americans who are suffering as a result of the economic downturn because her family is “going through that right now — even as we speak.”

    Listen here:

    http://thinkprogress.org/2008/10/01/palin-union/

I am so glad I save links when the batshit crazy twit praises something because you always know it is just a matter of time before she is suddenly against it.

  • abirato:

    Joe,

Here is an interview that Palin does with Hugh Hewitt on Sept. 28, 2008. At about the 3:30 mark she talks about her time in the union AND health insurance.

  • Sarah:

    Well, I try my best
To be just like I am,
    But everybody wants you
    To be just like them.

  • I AM a former IBEW member (LU 46). My work with them began in 1998 and completed in 2006. There was a terrorist attack, a crappy president who killed the economy and spawned two wars, several years sitting on the books while electrical apprentices did my job (material handler), and some schooling; after sitting on the books for three years.
While in school, a family member fell ill, I had to take more hours at my part time job, school fell to the wayside and though I finally found work again, it was within the trades in an admin capacity. So strong is my belief in the union that I went back and tried to work my job again, but the economy wouldn’t sustain me. I had no unemployment to draw on because ironically, I went to Alaska to work two of those summers I sat on union books. I cooked. I wasn’t allowed to file unemployment in my state once I worked out of state. For a while my only income was $98.00 a week on an Alaska state unemployment claim.
It was at this point I took a job again withing the construction trade, with my union’s blessing;as long as I was doing office work and not picking up tools of any kind on a job site. I did it and tried to get my new boss to go union because I strongly believe in unions.
I took my oath and initiation seriously and not temporarily. It was my life.
Sarah Palin is not, and will never be my union sister.
Sorry to rant, but it sickens me to hear her link herself with MY brotherhood.
    She has no clue.

  • lilly lily:

Sarah let Sarah be Sarah, and she has destroyed herself.

She has a load of puppetmasters doing their very best to mop up in Aisle 5, but there is always another mess.

  • Joe:

Thanks so much for sharing that. You’ve been there. You know. She hasn’t. She doesn’t.
And it sickens me, too, to hear her claim solidarity with labor.

    –Joe
