Proof of Palin Film Flop: Rushed to DVD/On-Demand as THE ROGUE Rises in the East (and Midwest and West)

If it were almost anyone but Sarah, I’d feel sorry for her.

I’ve written highly touted books (The Dream Team, Heroes, The Last Brother) that for various reasons have had the commercial floor fall out from under them. Believe me, it’s a sinking feeling.

Sarah must be feeling that way about the belly flop she’s just taken.

There is no greater embarrassment or more comprehensive admission of defeat in the movie business than to have a heavily promoted new title tossed onto the scrap heap of DVD/On-Demand after only a two-week, limited distribution run.

But as Hollywood Reporter reports, that’s the dismal fate of the recent Sarah flick.

Thus, The Oft-Defeated suffers its worst, and its final defeat.

This news comes just as my publisher, Random House/Crown, tells me more about new bookings on national TV shows for September/October.

Contractually, I’m not yet permitted to share with you the ever-growing schedule, but I can tell you that this will be the biggest book launch I’ve had since The Selling of The President in 1969.

Please stay tuned.

I guess some would call it ironic that THE ROGUE is rising just as Sarah’s own star is falling.

I’ll settle for calling it poetic–or prose–justice.

Sarah’s movie going to DVD/On-Demand after two weeks?

No whiter flag has ever been raised.

My hope is that THE ROGUE will help raise the true Red, White and Blue.

Yes, Sarah, this land is my land, too.

    Yes indeed.

  • Jaguar:

Pay per View reminds me of those seedy adult entertainment places, adult entertainment Channels, and now the Palin worshippers will have their own way to “have their needs met”, to put it politely, right in the privacy of their own homes! At least it’ll keep them off the streets for awhile.

Honestly, it can’t get much worse than this, the Karma boomerang just hit her where the good Lord Split her.

But I’ll be sure raise my glass to toast the success of your book. Mr McGinniss, “May you Always be happy, and may everyone know it!” (Where did I hear that before? hmmmm)

  • krbmjb05:

Joe, that is the PERFECT slogan – “This land is MY land too”! I’m most curious to see if you’ll end up on Fox for one of your media stops! THAT would be “MUST SEE TV”!

  • brbr2424:

“May you Always be happy, and may everyone know it!” That’s not a bad saying. Over on Bristol’s page on Amazon someone quoted Bristol as receiving this pearl of wisdom from her mother. ‘May we always be happy, and may our enemies know it!’ The Palin’s have instilled in their children that anyone who isn’t sucking up is an enemy.

  • Sally:

I say that every time I am permitted to write a comment on a rightwing site…”this is my country too!” And frankly, with the mess the right is making of everything, it is time we take back OUR country from the morons who would destroy her.

  • Older_Wiser:

Not surprising; but “The UnWinnable” probably should have gone straight to DVD anyway. Quitler should face the fact that she’s not big-screen material, but something to be bought on the sly, ashamedly, like those porn purchasers who don’t want to get caught. The movie is an embarrassment, even to what are left of her hardcore supporters who’ve had to beg people to attend the showings.

As you say, Joe, even the most successful among us have failures from time to time. I’m sure Chuckles drilled into Quitler from childhood on those”failure is not an option” and “I’m #1” memes while never really teaching her how to use a gun or how to get a real education, either (as SPAK showed). She’s gone for that tough “Superwoman” image from day 1 and that’s all it is, a manufactured image with no real content.

  • carollt:

$24,000 in 14 theatres this past weekend. It may be time for Sarah and the media to wake up and smell the coffee. Actual people are not interested in Sarah’s propaganda film, and to that I say, Thank you my fellow Americans. Dare I hope that interest in all things Sarah will also come tumbling down?

I guess Facebook, Twitter and repeating the phrase “common sense conservative values” will only get you so far in political life. People want someone who actually knows something. I have never said that Sarah Palin is stupid, but she does lack knowledge in many areas (current events, history, english, etc…).

How will Palin supporters spin this failure? How will they blame the liberals when it is not liberals who were expected to pay their hard earned money to see this film. It is Sarah’s own base who did not show up. Perhaps those stories of Sarah’s popularity were grossly overestimated.

  • AKRNHSNC:

If that statement isn’t typical of the Palins’, I don’t know what it is. “May we always be happy, and may our enemies always know it.” It’s their big F.U. to the American people who she considers “haters” simply because they disagree with her.

I can’t think of anyone that I’ve ever referred to or thought of as an enemy. I also don’t think there is anyone who would waste their time thinking of me in that manner. However, the Palins’ are a crazy bunch with a skewed idea of their importance in this world. I’m so happy I don’t have the time to spend obsessing over what others think of me as this crazy, mixed-up family does.

  • themom:

Oh my, oh my, oh my, my, my! Here’s to truth, justice and the American way! O/T….Joe…if your book, THE ROGUE, were to be made into a film or stage play…tell us your dream cast. Let’s all have a little mental vacation on Joe’s imagination dime!!!

  • Montrealer:

Joe, this comment from a poster over at C4P demonstrates just how deluded Sarah’s worshippers can be:-

    “independents4palin

The haters are making me so sick. The film has already estimated over 100,000 dollars and its not going to PPV until September, and selected theatres are still going to be rolling out through August and September. If Walmart wants to buy the DVDs, that means the movie is a hit, but the haters can’t stand it. When the haters are complaining about this film, that means its a hit. Its not done in Theatres, thats what the haters don’t get.”

You’ll never convince them that this dud of a movie is not going to be the greatest box office success of all time.

I really hope that Montreal, or some other Canadian city, is on the list of your ever-growing schedule for TV appearances, Joe. You must know that you have many fans here, and that the majority of Canadians have an adversion to Palin and all she stands for.

  • anon:

Sarah’s own base did show up- that’s all there is.

  • anon:

“This land is MY land too” Yessiree… and every time I hear John Boehner say “The American people” I want to shout back “That’s ME. And you DON’T SPEAK FOR ME!” (Actually I do shout back and my family looks worried about my mental health.) On the current debt/tax/cut issue it appears he doesn’t speak for the majority of us.

  • We know it must irk dear Sarah that her glorious movie was universally panned by critics and all but the unhinged. And given Sarah’s demands, when she was mayor and governor, for her various departments to give her ONLY good news, I think her real comments to Bristle are probably “Look happy and confident OR ELSE.” I agree with the other commenter that the constant mentions of “enemies” and “haters” by the Palins and the Bots shows a mindset that us reasonably sane folks simply can’t relate to. I have people I like and people I don’t like, but I don’t have an enemies list. And no, Sarah, not even you. You are a flippin’ nutwad, not Al Qaeda.

  • Martha:

Joe, I can’t help it. I’m a teacher. You’ve got to get your possessive/plural spellings right, or it just looks dumb.

Palins = Plural Palin. “The Palins have instilled . . .”

Palin’s = Possessive Palin. ” Is Sara Palin’s hair real?”

Palins’ = Plural Possessive Palin. “The Palins’ enormous sense of entitlement.”

I hope this doesn’t get published. Your blog is great and doesn’t need this kind of fussbudgetry shown to the world. Just sayin’!

  • CDNpotpourri:

“Yes, Sarah, this land is my land, too.” —> Touché

  • Anonymous1253:

Your book be made into a stage play or movie ?? Look at you, Joe … a “job creator” !!! I hope the perks and riches of that title quickly follow for you.

  • Lisabeth:

Why is anyone who doesn’t agree with Sarah a ” hater.”
She really is into the mentality of good Vs evil, we Vs them, etc.
This black and white rigid way of thinking is probably part of her religion.
It’s a very limited world view and way of thinking. This seems to be the problem
with the house of representatives now as well and it is very bad for our country.

I’m so glad you are getting national bookings Joe! I can’t wait!
Do you Joe and others too think she will run? I vote no although I think her ego is so
inflated, that she might just jump in very late.

  • sharon:

haha….just love it. THE ROGUE will drive the final nail in her coffin. No amount of word salad will help her and the “haters” will be rejoicing as Joe’s book and his tour drive home the truth about the wasilla grifters in all their junkyard glory. I hear crickets instead of donations to sarapac. Heh-heh….Ahhhhh…finally there is going to be the smackdown we’ve all been waiting for. Joe will be loved and hated all at the same time. This is gonna be a “wild ride” for sure. Got my popcorn….

  • Joe, I didn’t know, and can’t imagine why, The Last Brother was a commercial disappointment. It’s one of your finest efforts. Anyhow, thanks for keeping us abreast on the new book, I hope it sinks this woman’s ship for all time.

  • PollyinAK:

Maybe “we” should sign a letter/petition to Boehner stating that, “you don’t speak for me”, signed “The American People” ?

  • KatieAnnieOakley:

I just tweeted it with a link back to this post. THIS LAND IS MY LAND, TOO!

I just LOVE that! Just because we disagree with the Tea Party and $arah Palin doesn’t make us HATERS!

It seems to me that any blog that portrays Sarah in a bad light, (ie; truth), the bots show up in force and repeat Obama, Obama, Obama over and over again, as if these two people have anything whatsoever in common.

They have Obama tourettes. Much like their queen, they cannot get over the fact that she lost and especially to a bi-racial, brilliant man. I am proud of my President and proud of my country but these people really need to seek help. They are completely delusional and hate liberal with a passion, which makes them very unstable. Kinda like the Oslo shooter.

a couple of the verses that Woody wrote that are less frequently heard on corporate media:

As I was walkin’ I saw a sign there
And that sign said “No tresspassin’”
But on the other side, it didn’t say nothin’
Now that side was made for you and me

In the squares of the city / In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office, I see my people
And some are grumblin’ and some are wonderin’
If this land’s still made for you and me

  • Mrs. Tarquin Biscuitbarrel:

Maybe “Heroes” didn’t sell as many copies as you hoped, Joe, but it showed up in my life at a perfect moment.

I was driving halfway across the country with a sweetheart who was taking a new job. I was expected to move there and marry him when I graduated. I was not sure about this.

A mass-market paperback copy of “Heroes” was among the skimpy offerings at a gas station/grocery in rural Kansas. Since I had been a fan since “The Selling of the President,” I bought it with enthusiasm. I loved the book. I still love it. You were what I thought of as a grown-up–i.e., not a college senior–and you had doubts, fears, misgivings. I realized I probably would too, for the foreseeable future, and that it would be all right.

As it turned out, I rather than Dr. Midwest, I married another wrong choice before extricating myself and finding Mr. B thirty years ago. “Heroes” was one of the books that has helped me through the bad times as well as the good. Thanks.

  • KarenJ:

They’re also in full force, all multi-email-addressed of them, at IMDb writing their devoted little raisin hearts out, providing high-rated reviews of “The Unrefudiated”.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1961604/

Most of their reviews seem purloined from the pages of “Going Rogue” and quite a few refer to the momentary July-August 2008 88% approval ratings as achieved throughout her 30 month aborted governorship (they don’t seem aware that she scored higher once before, in May 2007, before her grifting became public knowledge).

  • KarenJ:

I’ve been Tweeting that right back at @JohnBoehner every time I see him say it in a press conference or see it written in an article.

  • Percy Sledge:

The two-week, limited distribution run is all that’s needed to peddle the DVD as “a theatrical release”.

    @theMom:
Katy Segal as Sarah! I think she should of been picked for the “Game change”! Now that Brisket looks like Snooki, we can have the Real Snooki play Her!
Toad is generic, skinny little runt just get anyone and throw some shades and a mustache & goatee on…

  • crystalwolfakacaligrl:

Ummm, they are in for Major shock when she comes up with her lame ass excuse why she isn’t running…
When she quit, the bots were threatening suicide and saying they were sick and running around like ants that the candy was taken away…
    8)

  • Reality Check:

Over at c4p, the bots were having their usual mass delusion over Bannon’s pitifully upbeat press release. One poster, I repeat ONE poster, timidly asked if this wasn’t actually a sign that the movie performed badly. You should have seen the whole pack turn and snarl on the poor fool until he hastily backtracked on his question. Good heavens, can you imagine ending up on a deserted island somehow with these people. It would devolve into a Lord of the Flies scenario within minutes of them setting foot on the beach.

  • Tom:

    bwaHAHAHA

  • Marie:

    Joe,

Perfect! “This land is my land too!” More Americans need to let the Republicans and Tea Partiers know that this IS our land too!

  • Anon:

There’s a Bible verse in which Jesus says that whoever isn’t for him is against him. I’m convinced that Sarah equates herself with Jesus, although she’s conspicuously lacking on the whole “love your enemies” front. And I don’t remember Jesus whining about h8ers, even though *his* enemies wanted to (and eventually did) kill him.

  • FEDUP!!!:

“Yes, Sarah, this land is my land, too.”

I have to remember that, because it is getting harder and harder for me to believe that. :/ This is my CHOSEN country, and when I CHOSE it, it was diametrically opposed to what it is now. I am sorely tempted to go away and find myself a new country – one where I can live life w/o having to wonder/worry about the path our government has chosen to take.

O/T: I just went to Amazon.com to pre-order your book, and saw that Levi’s is more expensive than yours. What gives? Can someone tell me the pricing policies of when a book gets discounted and how much it will be discounted?

  • lilly lily:

Sarah Palin is toast, but won’t know it till she is black and burned toast. Being dry and tasteless isn’t enough for that one.

She will need to be really carbonized

. Maybe then her bots will figure it out after they pour their last hard earned dollar into her wide open pockets.

She will take anyones money as long as they are fools enough to send it to her PAC.

You can count on Sarah Palin to be scheming some way to flesh out her own bank accounts as long as long as she has breath in her scrawny body.

  • notafaux:

I’m not Joe, but I’m a retired teacher who, like you, can’t resist cracking the ruler on wrists :-). Please note that you misspelled Palin’s first name: s/b “Sarah,” not “Sara.”

  • Reality Check:

    She’s definitely a “Special Wal-Mart Edition” isn’t she?

  • Anne:

Such good news for you and about Sarah for humanity!!

  • lilly lily:

Why am I not shocked. Chris Christie our N.J. seems to have a “special relationship” with Roger Ailes, and is calling their interactions” executive privilege’.

    What is it with Republicans?

Though Sarah Palin truly set the lowest of standards and is a sewer pit, the newer contenders need their presidential credentials vetted by Ailes and Faux?

Hey, Sarah! I’m a REAL American who is REALLY happy to see your “film” tank. America has voted and you lost. Big time. And the only people who will watch this on DVD are the ones who can’t get their scooter chairs into a theater.

  • truthrocks:

“Sarah must be feeling that way about the belly flop she’s just taken.”

Not hardly … I’m sure the “belly flop” has already been reframed by her delusional mind into a medal-winning high-dive. One of these days she’ll come out with a statement about how proud she is of the success of “Undefeated.”

  • Joe:

Actually, commercial failure, while it is, undeniably, a lack of anticipated success in monetary terms, doesn’t necessarily mean artistic failure. Some of my non-bestsellers are probably better books than the big hits.
Look at Springsteen: “Nebraska” is a better album than “Born In the USA” in my opinion. The Sarah film, however, had no artistic aspirations. It was a meretricious endeavor from the start: made only to promote her political prospects. Thus, its box office failure means it flopped on its own terms. And I can’t see long lines at the WalMart checkout counters from people gobbling up the DVD.

I, too, believe that Sarah is so hopelessly delusional that she will spin the movie flop into a “success”. It’s utterly breathtaking to read the comments at the C4P blog, and see how the bots have swallowed Bannon’s over-the-top hype about the DVD release hook, line, and sinker. I ‘almost’ feel sorry for them.

Simple answer: the Kennedys killed it before it was born. They had that power, even in 1993, and used it, even though the book was not an attack on Teddy. MSM gangbang, months before pub. Never seen anything like it. Someday I might write about that.

Joe, I’ve always learned more from my mistakes than I did from all of my succsesses combined. While I look at both as equal barometers, the failures we face, the speedbumps on the road of life, cause us to re=evaluate our outlook, change our approach, and perhaps recognize that we’re humans, and as such, are capable of improving ourselves. This is one quality I’ve always found lacking in Sarah, perhaps her greatest flaw and achille’s heel.
I agree with your assessment of “Nebraska”, though it didn’t gain as much traction as “Born in the USA”, artistically it surpasses “Born in the USA” and shows a much more creative iteration of Springsteen’s artistic range.

  • Thisby:

This is my CHOSEN country also. I CHOSE this country of my own free will, went before a judge, and signed on the dotted line. I did this during the Vietnam war, because I opposed it and I wanted to vote out the bastards that got us into that mess. I had been living here and had been a protestor. Then I married a man who enlisted and served honorably in the US Air Force. I hate what is happening in this country, but I will never leave it. I have family in Canada and Norway who would welcome me, should I wish to go there. But I don’t wish to go there. I became a citizen to exert my rights to oppose my government. That’s why I’m still here.
