Sarah & Billy’s Boy Frank View Tornado Damage in Birmingham//UPDATE (with photos)

Sarah did inspect tornado damage in Birmingham today, in the company of Franklin Graham.

A brief video appears on the Samaritan’s Purse Facebook page.

I’m sure you’ll find it as moving as I did.

The whole thing was stage-managed by Graham’s organization (see Sarah’s sweatshirt), so nobody not
on the team got close enough to ask her any questions (i.e., “How much are you personally donating to this rebuilding effort?”)

I wonder how much more it will take before genuine, caring, true Christians have had enough.

UPDATE:

Samaritan’s Purse says:
“The Palins Pitch In.”

Sarah says, “It feels great to be working out here. I hope more people sign up with Samaritan’s Purse so they can be blessed like I am today.”

Pictures are worth thousands of words? I have nothing to add to these.

She can relate, you betcha. She can tell these folks how the 100 mph winds that we had in Wasilla in September 2010 knocked down that hastily constructed fence that Todd had built. She has a relational empathy with these folks, heck, she lost her fence to big bad winds and you know that was just awful and she and her family and still trying to pick up the pieces and rebuild.

I would think that her God would have just made her fence right again, just as she is telling these folks that God will fix them up “real good” again if they just have faith.

  • Susan:

She disgusts me to my core. I don’t like the fact that she inspires such loathing in me, but the fact is she does. I hope your book Joe, will pry open some eyes!

  • Pat in MA:

Good Lord, her humility is stunning isn’t it, I mean who does she think she is that she should be visiting and consoling when it’s nothing more than another photo-op? Wonder if she brought cookies. She needs to get out of the way and let the real volunteers get to work, unless of course she shuts the damn cameras off and rolls up her sleeves. Yeah, like THAT’s gonna happen. The woman is an idiot and a FRAUD.

  • FrostyAK:

So, did she take a plate of cookies to the people who lost everything? Like she did (3 months late) in NW AK when their shipment of fuel didn’t get through before freeze up? And when they had to decide between heat and food?

These xtians and their photo ops never cease to disgust me.

  • Sally:

Her hair looks better than it did at her paid gigs this week. Oh, wait, this is no doubt a paid gig as well, and look, Mommy went to Alabama and all Piper got was a really big sweatshirt that Mommy didn’t even pay for.
If she really wanted people to think she was there for more than a photo op, why didn’t she actually DO something instead of an infomercial for Samaritan’s Purse, whose leader males more than the President of the United States? Anything connected with the Grifter turns my stomach.

  • carollt:

If you write another book Joe, you should write one about Franklin Graham. The only purse he is filling is his own. He takes money from very gullible, most likely income limited people and travels around in luxury planes and stays at luxury hotels. Nothing but the best for Franklin. I guess that is why he and $arah get along so well.

I just checked out Samaritans Purse tax return over at guidestar.org. Registration is free and you can look up any tax return of a non-profit organization as they are a matter of public record. Franklin took in 310 million last year. It was interesting. Franklin lists his salary and benefits at a modest 610k. But he also lists a grant to himself of almost four million. The salaries of his whole family are also listed and it looks like everyone is on the payroll. The wife, the kids, the spouses of the kids, etc…

I was going to joke and say that I was shocked to see that $arah was going anywhere without being paid. But now that I have read the 42 page tax return for Samaritans Purse, I am not so sure she did not get paid.

  • Joe:

Great research on your part. Thank you.

  • Older_Wiser:

Joe, if it’s any consolation, we in NC who are “in the know” despise the Grahams. I’m old enough to remember, as a child, when Billy was nothing but a tent preacher, all hellfire and damnation, in the late 40s and 50s. There were a large number of us who protested him and Nixon giving each other blow jobs at the Charlotte Coliseum in Oct 1971. http://www.cmstory.org/history/timeline/default.asp?tp=18&ev=348

The Secret Service tore my anti-war sign right out of my hands. Such he-men they were, even keeping vets in wheelchairs out of the facility. My 12 yr old son and a friend got inside, but they were booted out, too. Only the Nixon-Graham worshippers were allowed inside.

  • ellenpisa:

When does this woman have time/take time to care for her youngest children?

  • Older_Wiser:

You mean Piper? She’s 10 and a latchkey child. Bristol takes care of her own 2.

  • zenna:

Back in 2008, his salaries were over $600,000 from Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and over $400,000 from SP.

He got so much flack for the large numbers that his BGEA salary was cut to $100,000 in 2009. Then again, I haven’t looked through the financials so there could be other forms of compensation such as grants to himself and family as well.

    Worth investigating.

  • KarenJ:

Actually, I think Aunt Heather takes care of both the little boys, until either Mom or Grandmaw stop by to pick up one of them for a photo op.

    /speculation

  • newmeximan:

    Joe –

My mom went to high school with Franklin – a private Christian high school in Florida. She still has her yearbooks – if you decide to follow this lead. My father was an Army Chaplain, and he thought Billy was more full of himself, than the ‘holy spirit.’

    Be well

  • Surely, if there is a Hell, there is a special place in it for these “look at me” phonies. If they really wanted to help people, they’d be out there with hammers and lumber sans cameras, sleeping on the ground and shouldering backs and packs with supplies bought from their own fat pockets.

I’m not denominational, but I know enough about the bible to remember that you are not supposed to give your alms in front of men. Someone earlier today likened Lou Sarah to the Philistines. Like I said, I’m not denominational, but that seems an apt analogy.

  • Viva:

Oh, my. Have you ever seen two people working so hard at helping?

  • AKPetMom:

Nice, she hopes that more people “sign up at Samaritan’s Purse”. To what, fill the purse? Certainly not to actually help people. Oh wait, sometimes they do have doctors that assist the wounded but only after they try to “pray over you” and make you one of them. I guess in times of dire need that the wounded are willing to be proselytized to in order to have their lives saved. I doubt very seriously that Sam’s Purse is actually doing much to rebuild homes, they just like to go around telling folks how their particular Sky Fairy is the guy that will help them in the end, if they just have “faith” 😉

  • lilybart:

They would be like Sean Penn if they did what you describe. HE actually sleeps on cots and does real work and funds it with his own money. And he is someone whose hand she would refuse to shake.

  • frank:

I am from Alabama I live in one of the hardest hit areas in North Alabama. I would rather that trash not come to my state. Alabama has been damaged enough without having an evil person like her here. Stay away Sarah.

  • Lisabeth:

The only word that comes to my mind is BARF!!!

  • msf:

It makes me sad they conned this poor man in overalls into this photo. Must be hard time for Billy’s boy & Creepy Chuck’s girl. Yep. When they haul out Toad & the t-shirts & dirty gloves….it’s hard times for the Grahham’s & Palins. Notice you never see Graham’s wife grifting….she doesn’t even before to his church.

  • molly malone:

Joe, I want to second what Carollt said upthread: please consider turning your considerable talents to investigating people like Franklin Graham and his ilk. Religion has become (and possibly always has been) a money-making machine for con men and drifters. Think about it. The pickings are so easy. All you have to do is pontificate from an altar about your “devout” relationship with a supernatural being, and the religious faithful unquestioningly take you at your word and shower you with tax-free money. Why waste your time on three-card Monte, shell games, and thimble-rigging when you can go for bigger game by just working your jaws?

I may be an atheist, but there are few events more uplifting than a Catholic High Mass where they pull out all the bells and whistles in a magnificent cathedral, built by human hands, accompanied by music that makes your heart sing and yourself say, Yeah, we as a species are are marvelous creatures..

  • jk:

God obviously wants Frank to live in style here on Earth. Forget all that stuff about rich people not getting in to heaven or the love of money being the root of evil. It’s the same old story, grannies on fixed incomes sending their meager mad money in to help the “less fortunate,” the televangelist thanks them with a smile of perfect teeth and flies off to his enormous house on his private jet. Praise Jesus!

  • may:

Sarah the people of Alabama need help not you coming here to see what attention you can get for yourself. Please leave my state alone. Attention is all you want. If you want to really help give a good donation and stay in Alaska and keep your mouth shut.

  • Star:

How much are teh Palins getting out of this gig ???

  • VernD:

I think that in the middle image, Tawd is trying to get a bug off the teleprompter. Just sayin, also too.

  • Tyroanee:

Once again the body language in this video reveals many things about Sarah Palin.
    a) being full of herself is her MO
    b) Palins right hand on her hip the entire interview is a “matter of fact” stance
    c) I’ve never seen someone work so dang hard in a tornado zone while keep so sparkling clean!

Hey Joe? I’ve just looked at my calendar and it says September… [wink]

  • maddie:

Sarah is trying to get attention . She is are a fake. She could care less about helping anyone. Just wants to been seen. She needs to go to Alaska and leave other people alone. Sarah is the dumbest, craziest, and most evil person I have ever seen.

  • Sarah HalfTime:

Sorry the quitter is steppin around your area.

I live in Wasilla. Very few and far between, do people want Sowah and Toad here.

Hey man, I feel your pain.

  • Sarah HalfTime:

    May, I feel your pain.
The quitter is all about photo ops.

Hey, I live in Wasilla, where the diaster (Alaska’s Shame) is supposed to reside.

Hope that things get back to normal and any losses soon end. Diasters sure hurt, that I do know.

Just be thankful the quitter isn’t govenor of Alabama. When Alaska’s Shame was Alaska’s First Woman Govenor, she showed up at a diaster site with cookies that had scripture quotes inside the wrapper. She got there on Graham’s jet (no roads to the diaster site). Sowah, as govenor, didn’t utter a word about our diaster. Not one word. Then she decides to hop on Graham’s jet and visit the diaster site, 6 weeks later.

  • Sharon_too_also:

Much as I would enjoy a book on the the grifting Grahams, think about what you’re asking this poor man to do. He just spent how many months steeped in the Palin cesspool, now you want him to take on the Jesus freaks? I hope a long soul cleansing vacation is in his near future.

  • gypsyrose:

    dear joe,
being an analytical type person i sometimes try to sort out why i spend so much time reading about sarah palin on both the pro and anti palin blogs. i read the pro palin blogs to try to ascertain why these people continue to follow her and support her and believe in her. it does indeed boggle the mind. i read the anti palin blogs with the hope of one day finding out that she has been caught in her own web of lies and thievery and cheating.

her complete lack of respect for anyone other than sarah or for any social graces or with any regard for the laws of our society are a constant source of amazement to most people. you seem to take her actions and words in a much less reactive manner- perhaps because you know exactly who she is. having gotten close to sociopathic, psychopathic, narcissistic people in your previous work has possibly given you a much clearer eye with which to view her. it is that finely honed instinct for evil followed by the investigative work you do to expose the evil that has everyone anxiously awaiting the release of your book. i believe there is an intrinsic trust we feel for you that you do know of what you speak.

i was discussing this whole sarah palin thing the other day and finally just came out with the truth. if you are a good person. an outwardly giving person. a compassionate person. an honest person. a fair person. a respectful person. a patriotic person. a generous person. a loving person. if you are one or all of these things, then you want sarah palin to disappear. she IS the antithesis of all that americans are known to be and are proud of being. she is the american right wing evangelical version of al quaeda.

joe, i believe there is a lot of pressure on you to bring sarah palin down with what you reveal in your book. i hope the media and the law assist with her social, professional and financial demise. i think for many people it will be a joyous celebration of justice finally having been done.

i enjoy reading your daily observations about this fake, this phony created by politicians and the media.
with the exception of those who promote sarah palin and support her, everyone knows she is a fake. her appearance is fake. her words, her history, her “wonderful family and husband todd”, her background, her daily life, her experience, her ability to hunt or fish, her dedication to her children and her service to her town/state/country, her facebook page and twitter page…………all fake. how much more of a leap does it then take to believe her pregnancy was a fake? from where i sit typing, i am not trignostic. i am more about trignity. honor and truth for the child who has thus far spent way too much of his life as a prop for his adoptive mother’s own narcissistic needs.

    peace

  • Joe:

    Thanks. Me, too.

  • Freesia:

I’m going to make a prediction. It’s just a matter of time til the son of Billy Graham is caught in a Jim Baker/Jimmy Swaggert moment. It might not be a sexual foible, could be a financial one. But Franklin thoroughly enjoys running an evangelical empire – oh he likes it very much – and after that display he made of himself when he was uninvited from the prayer breakfast pulling a Pharisee in the parking lot, it’s clear that his ego is bursting at the seams. No wonder he and Palin like each other so much. Two frauds peddling God and raking it in and feeling the power.

I’m also remembering something. I’ll have to paraphrase from memory because I don’t remember her exact words but someone asked Billy’s daughter about Sarah coming to visit to have that unholy communion with Franklin and his father in North Carolina and the daughter, when asked about what her dad thought of Sarah, said “Well my dad might be in his 90s. But he’s not immune to being swayed by a pretty woman”. I got the impression that she knew that her brother – the great evangelical leader – had more or less brought his ailing father a little female entertainment.

Which sums up Sarah’s career. I’ve always thought the GOP could have accomplished the same thing with their base for much less trouble and money if they’d just hired from an escort service, told her to wear glasses and mention God a lot while flashing some ankle.

  • Freesia:

I ( pardon the expression) pray for it.

Look at those photos. The first one with her looking troubled. This is a woman who has preyed on people like the old man in the last photo. She looks so concerned. So touched. I promise you she will not think of him again.

That last photo bothers me a lot. I come from country folks. Bib overalls and one bad storm they’re destroyed. The man praying is genuinely hurt, genuine when he bows his head. Dislike his politics, hate what his Bible Belt has done to this country, that individual is hanging on by his thumb nails, very scared, and isn’t playing a game. Unlike the two standing next to him who are two of the biggest grifter frauds that ever drew a breath in America (in their nice clean camera ready Franklin provided t shirts/sweat shirts to look all committed and down with the common folk they use and despise).

  • ooo that last photo of Graham in overalls… begs for a caption contest doncha think? *gRin*

Todd – “I cain’t believe my favourite massage parlour is gone…”
Sarah – “Shut up and look humble for the camera Todd or I swear I’ll cut off more than your allowance”
Graham – “We thank theee Lord for thy fortuitous tornado – the Samaritan Purse was feeling mighty empty.”

  • LisaB2595:

“I wonder how much more it will take before genuine, caring, true Christians have had enough.”

Joe, we’ve already had enough. I had enough when I lived in Alaska through her gubernatorial campaign. >.<

I'm not sure what you're expecting. The point of being a caring, true Christian is to focus on the the good one can do for world, not get into judgmental pissing matches with the likes of Sarah Palin. As much as my self-righteous gland would like for me to climb to the highest mountaintop, point at her and scream "Hypocrite!" at the top of my lungs, I must recognize that the feeling generates from my self-righteous gland, and to give in would mean to abandon the teachings of Jesus.

I'm more than happy to tell anyone and everyone she's a liar and narcissist, but I can't pretend I'm "holier than she." That would just complete the circle jerk of hypocrisy.

  • jcinco:

She and franklin graham have never seen a tragedy they couldn’t exploit. Didn’t Jesus say “if ever you encounter human suffering turn it to your advantage by making it a photo-op”? A verse both she and franklin should heed is “You reap what you sow.”

  • jcinco:

Good to see you here my friend. She and franklin graham could possibly be the two biggest opportunists of present day. I look forward to the day when karma deals both of these vile exploiters a crushing blow.

  • jcinco:

I, too, hope you make an expose of the opportunistic franklin graham your next project.

  • lilybart:

First he has to survive the onslaught of hate mail he is going to get when his book comes out. He will need a cave somewhere with no internet for awhile!

  • jcinco:

as in helping themselves to a photo-op opportunity at the expense of the less fortunate?

  • jcinco:

In my opinion heaven would be the National Enquirer catching franklin leaving sarah’s hotel room in the wee hours.

  • Freesia:

I hear Alaska is just lovely this time of year. 🙂

    I kid. I kid.

  • Freesia:

    Hi jc. 🙂

I just read your comment about the hotel in the wee hours. lol

Oh. Then I would know for sure that God loves me.

I was one of the lucky ones even though three f-4 tornadoes came with in one quarter mile on both sides of our small sub division and the areas my kids live in we had no damage and no deaths or injuries, but man, many of our friends and neighbors lost everything. Seven in one neighborhood were killed. Harvest is out side of Huntsville where Redstone Arsenal and NASA are located. Athens just to the west of us had a lot of death and destruction. Some small towns were completely destroyed. I do praise God for keeping my family and I safe. Sarah Palin is not a true Christian. She can not be the way she spews such hate. We do have true Christians here helping and those people we really appreciate. Tuscaloosa was the worst hit with the most deaths. We do not need Sarah coming for a photo op nor to spread more hate for our great President.
