“The Oft-Defeated” a Box Office Bomb & Zero-rated at Rotten Tomatoes

Oh, well, they tried.   But it looks like Stephen Bannon is out the million bucks he spent translating his worship of Sarah Palin into film.

Bannon’s balderdash, in fact, achieved an unprecedented “Double Zero”: 0 percent favorable ratings at Rotten Tomatoes and 0 members of the public sitting through the whole thing as it debuted in the city of Orange, in the county of Orange, California, at 12:01 a.m. today, PDT.

The Atlantic’s Conor Friedersdorf unselfishly interrupted his vacation–and stayed up past his bedtime, too–to bear solitary witness to the fiasco in Orange County. We should all be grateful to him for his front-line report.

Even though the theater was only ten miles from the Richard Nixon Museum in Yorba Linda, not a single Palinite was willing to stay up past midnight to view the premiere.

Wasn’t so long ago that thousands queued through the night to get Sarah’s autograph.

But last night’s score: Harry Potter 5,000–Sarah Palin 0.
Can’t say I’m sorry about not being in Phoenix for the 5 p.m. showing today.

  • FEDUP!!!:

LOL! I saw the Rotten Tomatoes link, and relished the 0% rating…

I thought you would be in Phoenix and meet with 4 people for dinner today?

  • lilybart:

The bots are so counting on this film to bail out the sinking SS Palin! Even if there is a spike, getting Osama only got the President a spike for about two weeks.

What will they do when this doesn’t work to increase her poll numbers?

  • NotSarahPalin:

Sorry you can’t make it to Phoenix too Joe. We finally are having a “mid monsoon” break and it’s lovely and dry. Only about 104 today…but w/4% humidity it’s nice.

Maybe a book tour someday….I know many of us have already ordered them…and are anxiously waiting.

  • Dicer:

Schuks Joe, this is a policy wonk, whiz thing you know,Sarah gets the press and another sucker bites the dust.

  • Lisabeth:

I wonder if there is a way we can find out the numbers for each showing. I would love to know. I am tempted to still go at 5 pm just to take a few photos, laugh and see who shows up. But, I just can’t make myself sit through that movie!! I’m sorry you didn’t make it here. As NotSarahPalin wrote, it is actually cooler than normal here. I know 104 sounds awful to a New Englander though for us it is cooler !! Joe, did you see her PAC numbers? Did you see that she actually has an airline company (small) in Alaska called Republican Presidential Airlines? Or some think it is hers anyhow. Who else would name it that. Kind of sick, don’t you think??

  • Puzzle Pieces:

Here are the rewards you can earn for ticket sales for “The Oft-Defeated”.

From Gray Wolf for 5 tickets sold to Killer Whale for buying an entire show.

  • Lilylake:

I usually look at Rotten Tomatoes before I consider a movie, but also read a review or two. In general, it can be a good indicator.

If Sarah doesn’t want to be constantly ridiculed and “torn down”, then why does she keep doing the most ridiculous, stupid, hypocritical, shallow things imaginable? All movies are criticized, and one with political motives should certainly be. Now Bristol is doing the same garbage to make money.

This woman needs to be “sent packing”, and the sooner the better. Then she needs mental health treatment for herself and her family. Good Grief, even Charlie Brown & Lucy would know this. Hope your book, Joe, will help on this – I’M BUYING IT FOR SURE! Love to read; I doubt I’ll contribute to Levi.

I giggled at the Kansas City 1-1/2

Sarah Palin documentary glosses over truths | 1 ½ stars

    snip]
….it’s an infomercial of almost comical omissions. Here’s what isn’t in “The Undefeated“: Palin’s many gaffes on the campaign trail in 2008; her disastrous Katie Couric interview; her cash-in-quick reality TV family. The movie skims over the reasons she quit her governor’s job just as the going got tough. There is no “Bridge to Nowhere.” You leave out that stuff and it casts doubt on what you have chosen to include. [end snip

  • Thorn:

    Joe,

Check out the comments on Conor’s piece. They are falling over themselves to say that he made the whole thing up because there was no showing of the Undefeated at that time. It boggles the mind.

  • PollyinAK:

I am looking forward to my pre-ordered copy of Joe’s book. I am purchasing Levi’s book; I think it will be interesting, especially for the reasons he is writing it. AND, I hope his sales does well compared to Bristol’s book. It’s a way of giving Bristol the middle finger – her expression.

From Amazon re: Levi’s book: “I’m an Alaskan hunter and fisherman. I also am the father of Sarah Palin’s grandson. This has cast me in an unintended role in America’s most delicious drama I have gone from being Sarah Palin’s second son, as she used to call me, to her favorite punching bag…little better than a pile of squirrel scat. To correct the image she’s painted, and hoping I’ll have decent access to my son, I’m revealing uncomplimentary information. I’m doing this so my boy, in a decade or two, will know the true story–and can feel good about his dad. It’s a choice, Sarah or me.

To know how this strange mess came to be, readers need to learn who I am, where I came from, and where I’m going. My childhood in the Land of the Northern Star; my bond with the males of my family and my love for my mother and my sister–all play a part in my story. Reporting my tale makes me both laugh and cry; it is the truth.”

  • ManxMamma:

Sounds like he had better help writing his book than either Sarah or Bristol.

  • carollt:

If the turnout for the movie is below expectations, will Sarah finally get the message to go away? Don’t go away mad Sarah, just go away and please stay away.

  • zenna:

Palin Cult members are just like any other: Delusional.

  • Sally:

One of the ‘bots this AM called Conor’s piece a ‘hit piece’ because ‘they’ didn’t know there was a midnight showing” of the film, so he set them up to make them look bad. I guess when you have sent mortgage money to her, thinking that she cares about you, you hate this reversal of fortune. Sorry, but you people brought this on yourselves. You have access to the same facts we do; you choose to buy the Fox meme that Sarah Palin has anything positive to contribute. She does not. She is not a leader, not a good mother, not a good speaker, and not even a great liar. She looks cute in a shirt skirt…so does my niece, but I don’t want her to be President! Can you imagine Sarah working with Congress to get anything done? She would stamp her high heels and hide in her office, eating Taco Bell. Then she would pull up her poll numbers to see what she should do. Hopefully between the idiocy of her ‘family vacation,’ the amount of money SarahPAC wastes on her, and the continual bashing of the President over nothing, even the ‘bots will lose interest. I notice she has not resumed the tour and it’s almost August. And Bristol doesn’t seem to be selling many books. Yawn…these two can go away any time. I bet the TV people are regretting hiring Bris and babe for the show…that will be another Palin disaster.

  • Chickapee:

I am glad that her crappy documentary is a failure. I am waiting for the day she is exposed for the fraud she is. Sarah is working overtime trying to make herself relevant because her 15 minutes are up. I bought Dunn’s book, and I look forward to your book Joe. I take pride in my selection of books; it reflects who I am. You would never find a Levi, nor Frank B. book on my coffee table. I do not support idiots. If that were the case; I would then buy Sarah’s and Bristol’s monstrosity. My selections are never politically motivated, and I do not purchase to help inflate numbers; I do it to satisfy my palate.

  • Lynne:

I am buying Levi’s as well. I found those preview comments to be interesting and well written. Sure, he has a ghost writer, but at least a sane and intelligent one. I thought it was brilliant marketing on someone’s part to link to Joe’s date. It won’t hurt Joe, but it could boost Levi’s sales. I too have a gleeful juvenile desire to see his book do better than Bristol’s…gotta be a little justice somewhere.

And I don’t put books on the coffee table to impress anyone (or not). Of course I don’t happen to have a coffee table, but oh well….

  • carollt:

The local TV station in Indianapolis ran a story this evening called Palin vs. Potter. I watched it on the internet. Let’s just say the crowd for Palin was underwhelming. There were a few (less than ten) people at the concession stand before the show and only one couple was willing to speak to the reporter. They were stanch Palin fans, but they seemed like very nice people. The reporter then kindly reported that Sarah’s show was not a sell-out, but Harry Potter was.

I think we may be witnessing the beginning of the end of Sarah Palin. And that’s all folks (if only).

  • Flobro:

Joe, looking forward to your book. FYI IanLazaran on twitter is actually Rebecca Mansour sock puppet. If you read “it’s” posts on C4P it is obvious, same style and grammar mistakes as Mansour!

  • Bretta:

Joe explained a couple of days ago the competing interests that didn’t support a Kindle Single article regarding “Sarah Palin’s Arizona” so the dinner date was a no-go.

I for one am sorry to miss dinner with Mr McGinniss and other commenters from here, but not sorry I missed the non-event premier of The Oft and Once Again Defeated. </I?

  • Bretta:

That would be so nice if Levi’s book outsells the pisstol’s – since she has her grisly mommy’s murdock machine pushing her drivel.

  • mary b:

It may be the beginning of the end for $arah, but I’d bet good money she makes the end a BIG BANG!! $he must know that she is toast. $he can’t be THAT stupid!…..oh…wait…I forgot for a moment who I was talking about.
I do think the more she flounders the more noise she will make trying to stay relevant to her bots. I just can’t see someone with her EGO stepping down quietly with any shred of dignity left. $he is too damn narcissistic and greedy to let it go so easily (in her mind). $he’ll try to pull off another Rally or something to that effect, like when she quit the Gov job.
Soooo….get your popcorn ready!! $he’ll go out with a bang and it will be something either funny as hell or sad as hell or both. Sad, because she doesn’t even realize how she damages her kids every time she pulls one of her money making stunts.
Those Palin kid’s will need years and years of Therapy. If this is all they’ve known growing up, they will never recognize true unconditional love, loyalty and friendship. The type of loyalty $arah demands is not loyalty at all. A true loyal friend lets you know when they think you have made a mistake or are going about things in a bad way. They help you and are their for you and you don’t toss them aside because you cannot take any critisism.
Here’s to $arah’s Iceberg, let’s hope it hits before full campaign mode does.

  • Ignor her ,stop giving to saraPAC that allows her to live a life of luxury. Soon her looks will go and so will she, unless her foolish flock lets this grifter fleece more hard earned money off them. She is not a Christian she has a generic God she uses to get her flock of sheep to trust and believe in her. A woman that incites violence, steals from the poor, tell lies and is a greedy, media whore,is not a person of our Lord. She also likes wars, like her other religious fanatic BUSH. On Lybia ,quoteing her,,get in, bomb, and get out. And the Republicans pick on Obama. I am ashamed of my country if they allow this loose screw to get to run this wonderful country and you never know what can happen in this upside down world.

  • Brian:

Not surprising by National Review has a favorable review of the “Undefeated”

I suppose this was one of the advance screenings that Mr McGinniss wasn’t invited to.
