Another Freudian Sarah Palin Slip? The “Statute” of Liberty

Sarah tweets today:

“We’ll highlight the beauty of legal immigrants’ work ethic and love of freedom while visiting Ellis Island & Statute of Liberty today.”

Do you think Sarah’s more concerned about the statute of limitations than the “Statute” of Liberty as the state of Alaska–after stalling for almost three years–prepares to release more than 24,000 pages of emails from her time as governor?

Hat tip to Gryphen at Immoral Minority for astute spotting of “statute.”

p.s. Maybe somebody should tell Sarah that the Statue of Liberty is not a monument to “legal immigrants’ work ethic” but was actually constructed by French citizens in France.

“p.s. Maybe somebody should tell Sarah that the Statue of Liberty is not a monument to “legal immigrants’ work ethic” but was actually constructed by French citizens in France.”

    That would only confuse her.

  • Anon:

Don’t go there. She’s afraid of the French. She may have to send Piper out to rough them up.

  • lilly lily:

    My gawd.

I learned this morning that our 44 year old exercise instructor has early onset Altzheimers. A beautiful woman inside and out, both physically fit and intelligent. She was having trouble expressing herself verbally, and while being treated for early cancer was also tested for other problems.

Young children, a lovely family. We all feel for her.

Perhaps Sarah has some sort of brain damage. Looking physically fit is only half of being healthy

  • Dis Gusted:

“Looking physically fit is only half of being healthy”

except she does NOT look physically fit. She looks horrible. She is only 47 and has cottage cheese thighs and flabby arms. Her hands look like claws. Her face is droopy even WITH all the plastic surgery she has had.

She has false teeth. Her hair is falling out. Her skin is atrocious – don’t look at her face, that has an inch of makeup…look at her neck. She looks at least 10 years older than she says she is.

  • sallyngarland,tx:

When I see Palin, I always think of a Dairy Queen dip cone–the makeup is like the hardened chocolate.

  • Lisabeth:

Several people on the news were saying that people think Sarah is stupid, but she isn’t. She’s shrewd and smart, they said. Well if that’s true why does she write such idiotic tweets!!! Please bots, it’s not just a typo

  • Tservo:

    Sigh.
The notion that illegal immigrants are lazy with no work ethic is stupid- the vast majority risk their lives to come to the US for the opportunity to work. I see it every day- in restaurants, yards and parks ( nannies).
I see Latina women taking three buses to work as maids for the wealthy.
If only we could turn Lady Liberty toward Latin America, create another Ellis Island on our borders, and let those who, yes, want freedom, come in, we would be stronger for it.
I went to a May Day march for the Dream Act, and as usual, impressed by the passion shown for the US.

What a dumb remark to make when visiting Ellis Island.

  • tom:

hey joe maybe your buddie ailes will endorse your book( when it finally comes out if anyone cares anymore by then).

or maybe he will instruct his people on fox to play up the intelligence of palin.

what do YOU think your lifelong buddie will do?

  • zenna:

Dumb remarks come from dumb people.

  • guest:

Palin, the Teabaggers and others appear to genuinely not understand that the United States was populated by immigrants. Legal and illegal. From all other the world, but mostly Europeans. Including their own families. Mystifying.

  • lilly lily:

    Statute of Liberty?

The woman has mental problems. I see someone called her “Batshit Crazy” Now I’ll buy that.

And she made Piper apologize to the reporters? How much later than the event? I’ll assume after reading the blogs.

Correction ,the spelling is Alzheimers. But I am a private person, a reader pf blogs. who doesn’t have spell check or an edit button. I merely look in now and then between dashing around doing other things, so don’t have time to edit my posts.

She has staff, spell check, and loads of time to read all the blogs who diss her.

Palins tweets are for posterity. LOL. Statute of LIberty.

  • Kimberly:

In the gift shops near the statue thingy there are some 2nd grade easy readers which could get Palin up to speed about the history of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty before she Tweets again. Just a suggestion dontcha know.

Sarah won’t go there but in New York there is the Tenement Museum. I have read the museum is a historic treasure of education on the lives of immigrants.

  • Janine:

I really, really don’t like Sarah Palin, but I have to say I (who is a lawyer) sometimes mix up statute and statue too. Maybe I would be especially careful if I was tweeting to the world about the “statute of liberty,” but she says enough idiocies that we don’t need to jump all over her for a typo. Not understanding where the statue of liberty came from is much worse.

  • lilly lily:

Wonkette is a must read about this Magical Mystery Historical Event Tour” not for those media lamestream idiots who follow bitches in heat around. She is in heat to be POTUS, and will do anything, stop at nothing, stoop to the lowest level to get big bucks and a possible run for the Whitehouse.

One comment at Wonkette brought up the begging wino who wants a few bucks for food, not the water of life. Just as likely that YES INDEED, she is doing this to educate America about oconic objects like the Liberty Bell, The Statute of Liberty and all that silly jazz she herself skipped in middle school ,while drooling over Curtis Menard. She isn’t running for a chance to be the Republican candidate at fast as she can, she is educating all those stupid thirteen year old girls (like she was herself) mooning over Twilights resident vampire.

  • lilly lily:

darn it. Iconic, not oconic. White House not Whitehouse. In the heat of passionate outrage, I go off on these silly riffs.

  • Lidia17:

And that passports were not required for immigrants during most of the immigration wave at the turn of the last century.

Passports were not even required for Americans to travel in and out of the country before the 1950s:

  • msf:

Well folks, it looks like the Magical Mystery Tour may be cut short. Yes, the price of gas is so high Sarah Pac is feeling the pain…hahahahahah. Translation: the emails are coming, the emails are coming & therest of the Palin Family is about to mutiny. Too funny. I found it interesting that the pizza fiasco was attended by only Sarah & Piper. No Todd, Bristol or Willow. Also saw somewhere that Billy Kristol will not even talk about her now….what….what…he helped to create this monster.

  • Kimberly:

    Aha. Some one is asking.

How is Sarah Palin Paying for Road Trip?

ABC News’ Sheila Marikar (@sheilaym) reports:

So, how’s Sarah Palin paying for this grand tour anyway?

At the Statue of Liberty today, ABC News asked the former Alaska governor how much her tour has cost so far and how she’s paying for it.

“How am I paying for it? SarahPAC,” she said, adding that she’s traveling in “our own personal motor home that we’ve had in Alaska.”

Palin didn’t answer when asked how long she’s owned the bus that’s adorned with the Constitution and a larger-than-life version of her signature. When asked, twice, how much her “One Nation Tour” has cost four days into the trip, she got visibly irritated.

“Check SarahPAC.com,” she said. “I don’t know why in the world you would ask a question like that. I’m just thinking about America and our foundations and our freedoms and our opportunities. Why would you ask something …”

ABC News pointed out that she often talks about the economy and how much money we’re spending.

“What does our economy have to do with how much we’re — I’m not asking you to pay for a penny of this trip,” she said.

Cue the national anthem: the conversation was cut short when a group of school children visiting the monument launched into “The Star Spangled Banner.”

  • Kimberly:

Blaming Piper for pushing a reporter but not herself for putting Piper in that situation (Although we all know Sarah instructed the 10 year old to check the guy). Also too, notice how it was Palin who approached the cameras and mic in this interview? Not only her approaching but Sarah talked down to Piper right before she walked over, look at those people they are nice, lets go over and say hi. Seriously? Now there is a code to the kid which reporters are, “Nice” and which are the “Bad”, men? Who she should push, who she should not? Damn even brought out flowers? Desperate much?

Maybe those guys have read Joe’s Blog yesterday noting how dangerous it is to get to close to a Palin with a scam. I wouldn’t go near that kid either the way her mother yells rape.

  • lilybart:

Downstairs neighbor, late 40’s…dementia…..teen daughter, now mom has stage 4 cancer, I only told anyone this because it gives me perspective about the palin crap……she is mentally ill but I think it is from childhood trauma.

  • lilybart:

I just saw that clip and realized that Palin can still shock me. That poor little girl should never have been on any of her mother’s trips but maybe a few here or there. WHY is that poor child always dragged around and JOE, WHY can’t she go anywhere without at least one family member and usually more. Is she unable to fend for herself, does she have “episodes” like the ones the McCain people describe?

  • Kimberly:

There is another poll going on and C$P is telling their members, “Don’t forget to clear your cookies and go vote.
http://www.billoreilly.com“. To askew the results again. Heads up to Bill to be honorable and not count them like the last three agencies refused to.

  • g:

In the days of Ellis Island, there was no concept of legal immigrant vs. illegal immigrant. Everyone was “legal” except Chinese and Asian people – which is a horrible and shameful blot on our history.

  • Kimberly:

There are a few bots who are bringing up Piper looking tired. How Sarah never lets her enjoy anything. How being at a site for 20 minutes is not educational, interesting or fun. These few with some instinct are being talked down by Palin;s paid hands that it is Piper’s J O B to be her mother’s keeper, bouncer, right hand man for the good of society. These lunatics are certifiable.

The video above shows Sarah pandering to Piper. That child, if she ever discovers how much power she holds could make her mother dance. I can so see that girl puling her mother’s strings in payback.

  • g:

yes, really, how cruel to do that to a child. She basically shamed Piper in public.

Whatever you think about Piper’s actions the other day, if an apology was required, it should have been private and to the individual she might have offended. End of story. Instead, Palin lets the story live another day, announcing to a whole new set of reporters that her daughter was rude and is being made to apologize by performing some pointless gesture like giving flowers to random reporters.

When Piper runs away from this, Palin devalues the gesture even more, grabs the flowers and thrusts them at “someone, anyone,” – really emphasizing how bullshit a gesture the whole thing was to begin with.

    She is disgusting.

  • Gary Minich:

You’re right. She may be ignorant, but that is her choice. She has enough intelligence to learn, but has rejected the notion.

Saw a story on the news last night where a teacher in Mexico was receiving an honor as she had her kindergarteners lying on the floor singing barney songs while there was a gun battle going on outside. They now teach in Mexican schools “Gun fire drills”! Very sad!

  • She talks about work ethics when she quit? What an idiot! Also, too, that “fire in the belly” is fueled by her hatred of President Obama…she’s a sore loser and Americans don’t like sore losers. I absolutely loath her. I just saw the video clip of Greta and Sarah on her bus and all she does is babble on about what’s wrong with this country…I thought she was supposed to be teaching us about the founding fathers and all the historical sites she visited. All she’s doing is getting free publicity for her nonsense and paid for SARAHPAC vacation.

  • lilly lily:

The gas is getting too expensive for her PAC to cover.

Violins playing here in the background..

Signal for more donations to PAC for “poor” (its all in the bank dear bots not in my pocket for gas money) Sarah.

Sure gas is expensive. For all of us.

I’m not going anywhere outside the range of 15 miles this summer. And I live in horse country where 15 miles to somewhere is the norm.

Maybe she could get a Conastoga Wagon cheap and do it like a real Pioneer woman she pretends to be. Horse eat hay and munch grass, and she could sell their manure to some sucker out there who worships at her red monkey feet.

  • Kimberly:

Was the grifter regifting flowers? Those were a random few pieces of floral Piper had in her hand her mother took from her to give to reporters. Palin Tweeted thanks for flowers from someone in New York. LMAO, she took those flowers or another bunch given to her and gave them out in her fakey fakey gesture. Such an insincere phony.

Seems Bristol and Willow are refusing to leave the spa at the hotel. Todd is MIA. Her parents must be taking a nap. And, also too touring the Statue Of Liberty and Ellis Island is a full day event. Several days if you are really interested in history. These random sightings are a ploy not a plug for historic appreciation. It is a money grab for SarahPAC funds.

  • AFM:

There you go again putting facts out there. This is Sarah world for goodness sakes.

  • Sarah HalfTime:

Good grief Joe, (and IM) ya all are taking the fun out of this!
Now Sowah is going to learn there is a difference between a statue and a statute.

What cracks me up about those e-mails, is that they are being released in hard copy form because the state doesn’t have the technology to erase some of the info.

Ain’t that funny? Cause the family craft/computor area in the den has a printer/scanner which will make a PDF (in electronic form) of just about anything you put thru it. And our state administrators don’t know of such a thing? Me thinks they don’t want thousands of people peering thru said e-mails with ease. Let alone access to said e-mails to start shredding The Quitter and her wonks apart.

  • lilly lily:

I love the Colbert Report on Sarah Palin and the Mystery Tour. Watch it and laugh.

That is how I like to temper my loathing of Sarah Palin, with a good laugh.

By the way, he is attempting to get a PAC of his very own as he would like to take his family on such a vacation.

  • Susan:

I hate to sound mean, but where is Trig? He was Sarah’s favorite prop and now Piper is filling that void. I hope he’s at home (whatever that means) and is being cared for by loving individuals.

  • gypsyrose:

I sooooooooo understand the thoughts about sarah being mentally ill, however, i take exception to that being the whole answer. Her overall nastiness and her mean, racist, and vengeful manner is not something I believe can be attributed to a mental illness. I know that there are many thoughts about something from her childhood causing her to behave the way she does but let’s be honest here, who hasn’t had struggles and traumas in their lives. One of the signs of maturity is moving past “issues” that hold us back from love and inner peace. I don’t see a fragile human being who is struggling to overcome obstacles -whether they are self inflicted or not. I see a very very very mean spirited woman who does’t appreciate anything she has including those liberties and freedoms she continually shrieks about.

peace is a world without sarah palin speaking

  • I think everyone who possibly can should form a PAC. Why not? Everything gets written off and some wackos would send money to anyone. Throw a few sound bites in, changing depending on where you are and who you’re talking to, wear crosses and Stars of David and make yourself heard! The grifter life.

  • lilly lily:

I love it. The bots are paying for Bristol and Willow to get hot stone massages and facials, and all the other goodies high end 5 star Hotels offer for exhorbitant fees.

Willow is into massages, I remember one where she wouldn’t leave the spa-beauty shop and mama was late to a paying gig. Though I doubt mama is as understanding if Toad wants a massage now and then.

These girls are living high while mama’s sucker bots are scrimping away to send mama money for the Magical Mystery History tour.

While giving the reporters assorted flowers from flowers sent to her sounds like the recent wedding, where Britta and her mothers day flowers served as celebratory additions to the inlaws and Palins lapels. God forbid Sarah should pay out some of her millions for anything as stupid as flowers for reporters. Of course Piper wanted nothing to do with Sarah and her gestures. They haven’t a gracious bone in their bodies.

At least she didn’t grab some from the hotel lobby.

Usually hotels have some awesome arrangements.

  • Susan:

Why doesn’t Sarah Palin donate all of her PAC/bus/vacation monies to Down Syndrome research and treatment?

  • msf:

Looks like trouble in paradise. Piper did what any ten year old would do defending herself against the paparazzi because that is sadly what this embarrassing mob of so called media has stooped to. The Obamas are always aware of exactly where their children are & are either holding their hands or are at their side. Sarah kind of threw Piper to the wolves yesterday. She always does & poor Piper gets duped every damn time. It ain’t easy having a crazy, narcissistic mother. If Piper was taken in a crowd it would take Sarah five minutes to realize it. This is just so wrong.

  • lilly lily:

And Jon Stewart and Samantha Bee do a good rundown on the trip “Driving Miss Crazy.” At the end Samantha says she has to run and you hear the Bus last call before leaving is playing Hail to the Chief. But Samantha says no its The buses wheels go round and round.

Let her have her PAC funded tour, and without any press coverage (if that is possible) see how long it would last.

Oh and the reason for the choice of Pizza joints? It was featured on Trumps “You’re Fired. show, or whatever Trump calls his little money maker.

One grifter puffing up another Barnum.

A sucker is born every minute. And there sure don’t seem to be any lack of suckers in Palins world.

  • This observer guesses that if Freud ever looked into this womens mental state, I believe he would just throw up his hands and state that, “that person is an idiot”

  • M. Aragon:

Unless you’re Native American or of Nat. Amer. descent, meaning your ancestors were the first settlers back in the days before nations and borders, or your invader/immigrant ancestors asked permission of the original peoples or bought land from them, you’re descended from an illegal immigrant. But then we all know how much Palin dislikes the native peoples.

  • rm:

Why is she wearing a Star of David…. again?

  • g:

This was hilarious. First she claims that gas prices were rising, it would be so expensive they might have to quit the tour. But actually over the last several weeks, gas prices have been dropping, so she is totally lying. If they’d planned their vacation finances, they’d have been pleasantly surprised by the drop in cost, not the increase.

Second, she said gas was over $5. When in NJ, where they were it was really around $3.50 – it’s more expensive in Alaska, of course, above $4.

Of course, with a bus like that she might be using diesel fuel, not gas, which makes her remark even more pointless, but even diesel fuel is less than $5 right now in NJ.

Then, even more hilariously, she deliberately chose to ride around in the biggest gas guzzler anyone could imagine, and then she complains about the price of gas?

Some touring buses are equipped to use alternative fuel, Ms. Energy Expert – but I guess you didn’t pick one, did you?

  • lilly lily:

NYC= Jewish vote. Star of David.

She wore a huge Cross in D.C..

She was meeting with the high muckie mucks at Fox News at lunchtime.

And the press is following hot on her heels to Boston and then N.H.. Romney is going to speak, so she has to upstage him in his moment somehow. Maybe she’ll shoot out his tires. (McCain to staff. “Shoot out her tires” when she went rogue on him about Michigan. Someone should flip the switch on the stardust lights, and electricity onstage as the McCain staff did when she tried to pull a fast one and give her speech when told not to do so.

If she was Romneys understudy I would be talking about “All About Eve.” where Bette Davis says “Fasten your seatbelts we are in for a bumpy ride.”

Isn’t it time the Republicans dumped the goods on her?

  • Kristina:

Let’s be real. Sarah is not dangerous. She’s a woman, with a common sense opinion (perhaps at times not articulated too well – but hey – we can’t shoot her down for that since the man in the big white house sounds like an imbecile with his script), who truly wants what is best for the whole country. She thinks welfare is abominable as most people do. She thinks large govt is inane as most people do. If you get to the crux of what she says, it is common sense.

My fear is that people will continue to ONLY look at her when there is soooo much more shadier stuff happening, stuff that affects the country. Sarah’s actions affect Sarah. The Presidents actions affect everyone. Please open your eyes. PLEASE see the light.

  • Kimberly:

Cause after paying for food, lodging, transportation, treats and big foam hats there is nothing left to donate. Sarah said it herself SarahPAC is paying for this family trip. I am certain all of these in the clan photo are enjoying a free vacation courtesy of those donations to the PAC. Anyone who continues to give to this liar, fraud, deadbeat deserves to be broke.
    http://lightbox.time.com/2011/06/01/chasing-sarah-palins-one-nation-road-trip/#10

  • lilly lily:

Sarah and common sense? You have to be kidding. A Obama hater at the Rogue blog telling us to be kind to Sarah?

I’m not out for anyone at this point of the game, but I am AGAINST Sarah Palin and her peculiar version of common sense.

Well it is time to go out for dinner and good talk about everything but politics.

Though, even the Republicans around here, and it is a Republican stronghold, don’t like the woman. They think she is nuts and a loose cannon, and as such besmirches the brand.

  • jcinco:

You’re deluded. sarah payme doesn’t have the common sense to come in out of the rain. Did you hear her ignorant statement today regarding France and “other countries” gifting us with the “statute of liberty”? She’s a 1/2 wit. She’s educating America? Spare me, she’s by far the dimmest bulb to ever darken the national stage. I hope she pays you well to spread such bull.

  • Lisabeth:

What you don’t SEE is how wrong you are! And you are telling us to open our eyes?? If only you were capable of comprehending how ignorant you sound. I wasn’t sure of the right word- I honestly don’t want to name call. But you are blind. The President is extremely intelligent and articulate. He is respected and liked around the glObe. He has done a good job given the disaster he inherited. He has a calm temperament and thinks things through. Sarah has NO common sense. She did not do a good job as mayor and she quit her governor job. Her actual record is not impressive sorry. This isn’t about how she appears. I could go on and on to you but if you don’t see bow what a complete fraud she us and how inept and insane she is, you never will. I could list all the facts about why her record is so poor. I could list every lie and crazy thing she’s done but you would still think she had common sense.
She doesn’t. And she will never ever be president (Thank God!!) because the majority of Americans see what a fraud she is, how unstable she is, how inarticulate she is and how lacking In knowledge she is.
You do know that her fans like you are a small group don’t you?
Even most Republicans like the President personally and see he is intelligent. Only a small group of America and don’t see that. Maybe they are brainwashed Fox viewers?? But people are waking up! Hannity and Limbaugh have lost 1/3 of their viewers/listeners. Did you know that?
I just wasted time trying to show you that most people don’t see Sarah like you do. I know you are convinced but not only are your eyes closed but your mind is shut.

Where is there talk about Palin being concerned about gas? Sarah said today Willow fly back to Alaska because she had to work. Was that a private jet that took her back? What about Todd and Bristol did they go home too… first class? Sarah concerned about gas prices but not about plane fare?

Ever notice how happy Piper is when she is with her dad http://www.daylife.com/photo/06m8atjfxXe6T?__site=daylife&q=Piper+Palin not so much when she is with her mom http://www.daylife.com/photo/08hiaw18C4d8E?__site=daylife&q=Piper+Palin

Ha, just saw where Sarah says if gas prices get much higher she will have to stop busing around.

“Palin said she has at least two good reasons to not divulge her tour’s itinerary in advance.“We know where we’re going,” she said. “There’s a couple of different reasons why we’re not going to broadcast it to the whole world. One is security issues, but another is if the price of gas climbs much higher, right Todd [referring to her husband who’s traveling with her, Todd Palin], we’re not going to be able to go too far.”

OKAY, #1 you have Piper security is shored up. #2 if you are concerned for security don’t roll in a big ass RV with your name on the side. #3 gas prices have dropped since Memorial Day. Gas prices are expected to continue to drop. #4 If you are concerned about the price of gas how about bus pooling all the fam along for the ride and ditch the multiple SUV’s to travel to & from the bus. #5 Who but a complete moron of economics would haul a big honkin, half a million dollar RV to the East Coast from Alaska and not have budgeted a gas allowance or at least Googled the expense in advance to see if they (Read grift) could afford it?

Liar, liar, white hot pants on fire.

Okay, I admit I am a very cynical person by nature so therefore looking back at all of today’s Palin news I have to asked myself why isn’t the media reporting or asking the following?
    1. Palin starts the day by trying to make her daughter apologize to strangers and give them flowers, to which her child responds “I don’t want to” and turns and walk away. Look closely at the clip, it’s there. I wonder if her supporters have focused on Piper since the trip began and find her to be as obnoxious as I do?
    2. At some point, both Todd and Bristol leave and go home. What happened? Did they get enough of standing around watching her make a fool of herself? Weren’t there enough crowds to keep them excited?
    3. She has a big meeting with her employer and soon after, they issue a statement that sounded like they were saying yes, she’s still employed for now. Was she warned about that slip of the tongue that she is on a “family vacation” (which some are saying is illegal for her PAC to be paying)?
    4. Considering that all of the news clips I have seen do not pan out and at least show crowds that would be expected for someone with as large a base as she is supposed to have, what’s up with that?
    5. Since by the end of the day, she was practically drawing maps of where she was going next — did the sign on the bus (in front of FOX News no less) not only signal to her caretakers but maybe even to her that the whole tour is not only going to get worse, but it is turning into a major fail?
    6. How will she terminate this whole stupid tour?
And finally, why aren’t the media asking where’s Trig?

  • Amazed:

Has anyone interviewed the reporter who Piper should truly apologize to? His viewpoint would be informative!
